I'm not sure how this book disappeared from my blog. But its another great read that has changed my thinking forever. Read it!

Update: Apparently the author is LDS and the book has some major Mormon undertones. I, myself, am not LDS...and should still be able to appreciate the good ideas about mentoring and reading the classics (which I do!), so why did my cheeks burn when I learned the connection?

By Oliver Van DeMille. This book is blowing my mind! Jason and I have had some issues with the virtual charter school we've been using for Isaac's kindergarten year, and this book articulates our concerns so perfectly.
We will be going to straight homeschool next year, and forging our own way. Well, not our own way. We'll be lead by the inspiration of this and many more books and community resources.
And it was quite entertaining!
Not a read-aloud for the kiddies, but fun for this mom-of-suburbia to peek into another world. Several times I was laughing out, and re-reading some lines to Jason:)
Wednesday will be my first OB appointment, and heartbeat check, and it can't come soon enough. I've had this fear the baby is dead inside me. It's amazing how ignorant I was the first time around, when I thought nothing of never feeling the baby all the way up to 25 weeks. I didn't know enough to be worried, and blissfully thought nothing could ever go wrong...until it did.
Searching iTunes for a Bob Dylan version of his "Knockin on Heaven's Door,"
I ended up with this Avril Lavigne rendition instead. The shame of it! You like?
I am waiting for the Courtney Love autobiography to be released on October 31st. I have a feeling it is going to be an interesting read.
Back in my college days I read Marilyn Manson's first book, and I could not put it down, seriously. His music is not my fav, but his writing style and honesty is entertaining. It looks like he owes a lot of the credit to Neil Strauss, who co-authored the book, and is well known for his biographies.
And on that note...I think I'll have to look into more of Strauss' books. How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale, he authored with Jenna Jameson looks like another good one.

After cruising around Barnes And Noble last night, I put together a few selections to keep me busy for a while.
Living Out Loud by Anna Quindlen:
A collection of her "Life In The 30's" columns. It will be nice to have this around for short reads. I appreciate her bio as a mom of two young boys. Everybody say a heart-warming "awwwww!"
Geek Love by Katherine Dunn
Now this is a novel I can get into. How is it I haven't been introduced to this one before?!! I'm 57 pages into its 347, and already imagining how bummed I will be when it's over. The author is local, here in Portland, and I enjoy the familiar street names and land-marks. Her twisted mind is a beautiful one.
I also bought...
The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy by Doglas Adams
Finally joining the masses who've already added this to their list of favorites, I'll start on this right after Geek Love.
The new Blackwood Farm by Anne Rice
I've read just about every one of her books, so felt compelled to add it to my collection. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'll actually read it. We'll see.
Stitch 'N Bitch: The Knitter's Handbook by Debbie Stoller.
My old knitting needles are lost in the dust somewhere, and I've been invited to join a Stitch 'n Bitch. I thought it would be best if I practiced a bit before actually joining.
